Regenerate, 2019
Timber, charred wood from various trees and banksia seeds collected from various sites from burned bush at Peregian Beach, 100 meters fishing line, hooks, glue, string, 50x50x50cm
Regenerate won the Caloundra Regional Gallery Excellence award in the Local Artist – Local Content Prize 2020.
This sculpture is about disorientation in the psychological and physical space during the bushfire at Peregian Beach. While memories compiled of angst, displacement and destruction are still present the bush has commenced its recovery. In response to the bushfire, the banksia has released its seeds. The charred bush will be taken over by a new life and soon the event will be nothing but an invisible footprint.
The circle represents new life, time and unity. The charred chaos at the center will provide the nutrition for new life.
